An MDCP partnership with a group representing a U.S. industry is a great opportunity to help indirectly numerous private companies in an industry. So industry groups are generally eligible to apply for an MDCP award. Such groups by their very nature and composition allow an MDCP partnership with ITA to benefit an entire industry. By contrast, such a partnership with a private enterprise would not have the same industry-wide benefit. So, although a private enterprise might be found to be eligible if it could prove that no industry group represented its interests, its MDCP proposal would probably be viewed to benefit one company, the MDCP applicant, first and foremost rather than having a more generalized benefit to the entire industry. Here is a list of some of the types of organizations most often found to be eligible to apply for an MDCP award.
- Trade associations
- State departments of trade
- Regional associations of trade and economic development
- World Trade Centers
- Chambers of commerce
- Small business development centers
- Non-profit industry organizations
