HIGH LEVEL ECONOMIC DIALOGUE - INITIATIVE FACT SHEETS
Entrepreneurship: Factsheet |
Entrepreneurship Partnerships
The United States and Mexico acknowledge that entrepreneurship and innovation foster successful economies. To develop these areas the U.S. Department of State and the Mexico’s National Entrepreneurship Institute (INADEM) launched the Mexican-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC). The goal of this unique partnership is to enhance regional competitiveness by boosting North America’s high-impact entrepreneurship ecosystem. MUSEIC is made of representatives from the public and private sectors from both countries, who are working to develop new initiatives along with public policies to foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
Our Work, Our Goals
Seven MUSEIC subcommittees have developed work plans to promote cross-border innovative entrepreneurship by strengthening legal frameworks, improving access to capital, expanding the infrastructure for the development of small businesses, facilitating the commercialization of technology, connecting regional clusters of innovation, boosting women entrepreneurship, and propelling the participation of the Latin diaspora in the United States.
MUSEIC’s recent efforts include the development of a binational cluster map to identify trade and education synergies on both sides of the border to boost economic development. In addition, the United States and Mexico have both hosted two entrepreneurship and innovation exchanges for public and private sector leaders, including secretaries of industry, directors of national councils of science and technology, chief executive officers, and chancellors of universities. The exchange programs included visits to innovation and research centers, incubators and technology accelerators to exchange experiences and highlight the possibilities for strategic investment at any scale.
Several Mexican CEOs of small businesses attended a workshop with their U.S., Canadian, and Central American counterparts with the purpose of creating partnerships to support the Small Business Network of the Americas. This network is also connecting with the Mexican Network for the Support of Entrepreneurs to facilitate business development and work together on global opportunities.
To strengthen scientific entrepreneurship in Mexico, we launched the pilot “Innovation-Corps” or "I-Corps" program in Mexico to help take Mexican scientific inventions from the lab to the marketplace. The I-Corps teams will define potential client profiles, identify different market segments, and adapt their product value to the potential markets. This program will roll-out in the first half of 2015.
With the HLED, we prosper together.
