Export Trading Company Act (ETCA)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Federation of International Trade Associations (FITA) to Publish Directory of Export Management Companies (EMCs)

(Washington, DC) The Federation of International Trade Associations (FITA) announced a new project underway to publish a directory of U.S. Export Management Companies (EMCs). EMCs are a unique type of U.S. international trade intermediaries that exclusively represent U.S. manufacturers in export markets. According to U.S. Department of Commerce statistics, trade intermediaries of all types account for approximately 40% of all U.S. exports.

FITA is actively surveying over 5,000 U.S. trade intermediaries to determine whether they are an EMC, and if so, their activity by product, export markets, and U.S. firms represented. The information will be produced into a searchable Internet and printed directory of EMCs.

"EMCs are an excellent way for small and medium sized manufacturers to establish an export business" according to Nelson T. Joyner, FITA Chairman, "however, locating an EMC is difficult. No directory of EMCs exists. FITA’s new directory will be a valuable tool for those U.S. manufacturers who wish to locate an EMC. The directory will also serve as a buyers guide for overseas companies."

EMCs interested in being listed in FITA’s directory can participate by visiting FITA’s www.fita.org/dbase.html.

The Federation of International Trade Associations www.fita.org , founded in 1984, fosters international trade by strengthening the role of local, regional, and national associations throughout North America that have an international mission. FITA affiliates are 300 independent international associations with an aggregate membership of more than 300,000 U.S., Canadian and Mexican companies and organizations active in international trade. FITA’s award winning content-rich website contains an Index of Web Resources, an annotated and indexed searchable database of more than 2500 world trade Web resources.

The members of FITA affiliates represent a broad cross-section of the international trade community: manufacturers, trading companies, contractors, freight forwarders, custom house brokers, airlines, shipping companies, port authorities, banks, insurance and underwriters, associations, etc., and a wide range of service providers including telecommunications companies, law firms, and consultants. Information on joining a FITA member association is provided at www.fita.org/whyfita.html
