Commercial Service Teams in Northern Virginia and London Help Secure First Export Sale for Opower

 

The International Trade Administration’s U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service teams in northern Virginia and the U.S. Embassy in London partnered to assist Opower make its first export sale.

Opower, an Arlington, Virginia-based home energy management software company, has introduced its multi-channel customer engagement platform to the United Kingdom.

ITA personnel on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean provided support and advice to the company as it pursued its first deal in the UK with energy supplier First Utility.

The Opower platform is a cost-effective way to deliver the value of the Smart Grid directly to customers. Opower currently works with 55 U.S. utilities in 24 states – including 8 of the 10 largest U.S. energy providers – and reaches more than 10 million households.

The company will now apply its model to the UK market to help British households save energy, emissions, and money.

Opower's success in the U.S. and new partnership were also prominently highlighted in a UK report released today by the Prime Minister's Cabinet Office on "Behaviour Change and Energy Use."
