U.S.-Brazil Commercial Dialogue
U.S.-Brazil Commercial Dialogue
The U.S.-Brazil Commercial Dialogue was created in 2006 to provide the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, and Foreign Trade (MDIC), a forum through which to work together to grow bilateral trade and investment. Since its inception in 2006, the Commercial Dialogue has fostered successful cooperation between Commerce and MDIC, and has served as a strong mechanism for addressing cross-cutting issues affecting the movement of goods and services and the competitiveness of the U.S. and Brazilian products.
Discussions under the Dialogue are organized under five working groups – Trade Partnership, Industry & Investment, Services, Intellectual Property and Standards. Each of these working groups has developed substantive agenda and work plans on issues that are standing in the way of growing bilateral trade and investment. Specific topics include standards and conformity assessment, regulatory coherence, customs issues, industry specific engagement including cosmetics and environmental technologies, best practices discussions on attracting foreign direct investment, how to facilitate the development of a cold chain, facilitating cross border professional services, reference materials on biofuels, the WTO Inquiry Point and many others.
The Dialogue has featured thirteen plenary meetings at the Secretary and Under Secretary level and countless information exchanges in the form of digital video conferences, workshops, site visits, training sessions and conference calls to enhance bilateral understanding on technical trade issues.
