ITA's Advisory Committees
The primary source for outreach to the private sector on trade issues that cut across all sectors of the U.S. economy
ITA's Advisory Committees ensure that private sector views are known and considered in the formulation and implementation of trade policies and programs. The Committees also provide ITA with a source of cross-sectoral, technical advice, a forum for advancing U.S. industries, ITA, and the Administration’s broader trade objectives, as well as a window to the changing trade environment.
- President’s Export Council (PEC),
- Industry Trade Advisory Center (ITAC),
- The Manufacturing Council (MC),
- Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB)
all of these committees have a unique role within the International Trade Administration (ITA)
The President’s Export Council (PEC)
Advises the President on the full range of trade and export matters, building consensus at the highest levels and promoting the benefits of exporting to all segments of the U.S. economy.
Industry Trade Advisory Center (ITAC)
The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) and the United States Trade Representative (USTR) jointly administer the program, which includes sixteen Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs), a Committee of Chairs, and over 375 industry representatives. In the Trade Act of 1974, as amended, Congress ensured that U.S. trade negotiators were consulting with the private sector during trade negotiations and that industry has a voice in U.S. trade policy formulation.
The Manufacturing Council
Advises the Secretary of Commerce on government policies and programs that affect the United States manufacturing sector, and provides a forum for discussing and proposing solutions to industry-related problems.
The U.S. Travel and Tourism Board (Board)
Advises the Secretary of Commerce on the development, creation and implementation of a national tourism strategy. The Board focused their efforts in year one of the program on the International Promotion Campaign in the United Kingdom, the United States’ largest overseas market. The campaign was largely successful, and year two of the campaign focuses on the United Kingdom and Japan.
