Steel
Steel is a critical material widely used in nearly every industry including construction, automobiles, machinery, appliances, energy, shipbuilding, precision instruments, and more. Steel is produced in most countries globally and is a heavily traded commodity. Historically, steel-making has been the subject of significant trade frictions over the past several decades. To capture and report on steel trends both in the United States and globally, the International Trade Administration provides several programs and information products.
The International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, manages this global trade site to provide access to ITA information on promoting trade and investment, strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. industry, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements.
