Liquid RObotics
Liquid Robotics, based in Sunnyvale, California, is a client of CS San Jose/Silicon Valley. Liquid Robotics builds ocean-going robots that operate autonomously at sea, harnessing the ocean’s energy for propulsion and employing solar panels to power computer and communications systems. The robots have various applications in the defense and security, environmental assessment and offshore energy sectors. Liquid Robotics employs roughly 120 people and currently does business in more than a dozen countries across the globe. The company has been working with the U.S. Commercial Service to expand its presence overseas. International sales are very important to the company and about 40% of their revenue now comes from abroad. CEO Gary Gysin mentioned that international revenue helps balance domestic and international cyclical events. He credits U.S. Commercial Service programs with helping Liquid Robotics expand sales into both Indonesia and Australia, among other locations, and mentions that the company’s overseas partnerships and international revenue contributed to their recent acquisition by the Boeing Corporation. Mr. Gysin highly recommends U.S. Commercial Service programs, stating the U.S. Commercial Service can “open doors for you that you cannot open”, and has introduced the company to contacts that have been fundamental to its growth.
