Bulgaria’s leading telecommunications service provider. This transaction was valued at $150 million, making it the largest export sale in history between the U.S. and Bulgaria.
U.S.-based SpaceX is going to provide the launch vehicle (a Falcon 9 Rocket) and NASA will host the launch at Cape Canaveral.
This sale directly supports 300 U.S. jobs at Space Systems Loral, indirectly supports thousands of other sub-contractors in 48 U.S. states and supports many jobs at Space X.
This satellite will bring 4g internet, television and news services to millions of Bulgarians located in cities and remote hilltop villages throughout the country. In addition, Bulgaria will be able to provide internet, television and telecommunication services to surrounding countries such as Serbia and Romania.
Bulsatcom chose a U.S. supplier over other competitors, including a Russian satellite manufacturer. Kudos to current and former staff at CS Bulgaria for their persistence at bringing this deal together, along with EXIM and EBRD. In fact, Space Systems Loral’s VP Bill Weller has been highly supportive of EXIM and provided several public comments about EXIM’s importance a few months ago during the reauthorization debate. Mr. Weller has also used the Advocacy Center and is very appreciative of our staff there and all of their hard work on behalf of SSL worldwide.
