ITA-MDCP Project Team Member Guide
Each of the 12 active MDCP multi-year projects has a team of ITA staff assigned to help a cooperator accomplish its project goals. Each project has an ITA team leader. Most of the 219 ITA staff currently serving on ITA-MDCP project teams are in Global Markets, from Washington D.C.-based desk officer Ann Ngo (The Maritime Alliance) to Bob Deane in Seattle (Evergreen Building Products Association) to Zhen Gong-Cross (CalAsian Chamber project) in the international field.
The team may include federal staff outside of ITA as well. Whether or not this team includes federal staff outside of ITA, it is called simply the ITA-MDCP project team. Participation levels vary by team member and by project. So, the guide below should be adapted to each project's situation.
Contribution | Relevant to | Participation Level |
---|---|---|
Coordinate | All | Relate work to parent MDCP case in SalesForce: Find a link to the case at the bottom of your MDCP project profile. Or, search in SF for the Case that begins "MDCP award". |
Create "child" SF cases as needed. Choose "export promotion"or, for trade barrier cases, choose "commercial diplomacy". | ||
Conference calls: Every 4-6 weeks. GM/CS/overseas posts should ask the ITA-MDCP project team lead if their participation is required so as to avoid "running up a bill" unnecessarily against the "limited amount of no-charge service" from CS/overseas posts. | ||
Copy ITA-MDCP project team lead in all project emails & phone calls | ||
Plan | GM/CS/overseas posts |
Strategic plan: Include MDCP project activity in the post's country plan. |
All | Calendar: Post project activities on ITA Events of Interest (internal) and Global Trade Events (external, see eMenu--Events). To the extent practicable, the ITA-MDCP project team members support a cooperator's trade mission whether it is certified or not, but do not lead trade missions. | |
FY operating plan: Each July/August coordinate with your ITA-MDCP project team lead to budget the cost of team support your cooperator's project. | ||
Reach Out to SMEs | GM/CS/U.S. field | Counsel SMEs. Cooperator identifies to ITA each firm that signs an MDCP project success agreement. Help these firms before and after planned MDCP activity. |
Record Success | All | First, create a child SF case, then send draft WINs to Brad Hess for review before submitting for approval in SalesForce. |
Promote your project work within ITA. | ||
Check cooperator's quarterly activity reports. These are emailed to relevant team members by the ITA-MDCP project team lead or the MDCP director and include: report A1 of activity, report B of project milestones, and report A2 of exports generated. (For sea-borne shipments reported on A2, you may also wish to spot-check with DataMyne.) | ||
Get photos of project activity. See photos already archived. | ||
Highlight Resources | Help the cooperator discover new trade barrier and export development resources. Start with this partial list. One relevant resource highlight at a time works best. | |
Travel | Examples:
|
|
Who pays? For MDCP project activities, travel by members of the ITA-MDCP project team is never paid by the cooperator. Use funds of the office of said staff or administrative (admin) funds managed by ITA's Industry & Analysis (I&A). (See FY operating plan above.) |
||
When: Early. Groups of 8 or more need 2 months notice. | ||
How to use MDCP admin funds to pay for federal travel | ||
Public comments | Public presentation? Consult guide on whether/how to get approval. | |
Due Diligence | Financial viability of the cooperator and its project performance. | |
CS Logo | GM/CS | CS members of the ITA-MDCP project team approve logo use by cooperator, which is encouraged. ITA emblem use is required. Its use is approved by the team leader and the MDCP director. |
No-Charge Service | GM/CS/overseas posts | Limited amount of no-charge service from GM/CS/overseas posts is offered to each cooperator. Each GM/CS/overseas post ensures that the cooperator knows at what point such service is likely to be exhausted. |
