Top Markets Series: Recreational Transportation
The recreational transportation sector is perhaps the only labor-intensive sector of the U.S. economy that supports a positive trade balance. With growth projected into the future and burgeoning international demand for U.S. products, exports are expected to reach $7 billion in 2018, supporting 180,000 American manufacturing jobs.
The key industries of the Recreational Transportation sector are recreational marine products, recreation vehicles (RVs), motorcycles and miscellaneous vehicles (ATVs, snowmobiles and golf cars).
The 2016 Recreational Transportation Top Markets Report ranks the top 30 export markets for the recreational transportation sector as a whole, as well as the top 10 markets for recreational marine products, recreation vehicles, miscellaneous vehicles, and the top 15 markets for motorcycles and parts.
Update: The 2018 Top Markets Report Recreational Transportation Case Study focuses on new developments in recreation vehicles (RVs) in China.
John Vanderwolf and Charlie Rast served as lead authors on this report. A note of thanks goes to Jim Rice for his review and thoughtful comments. A special thanks also goes to the U.S. Commercial Service specialists who provided information for the country case studies and responded to a request for survey information on the RV sector. Much of the information was gathered from U.S. Census data and commentary was developed through numerous conversations with industry.
This report is part of the Top Markets Series. Each report ranks future export opportunities within a particular industry based on a sector-specific methodology.
